Yes. The LPS-13 is solar compatible — use the FM125 (30 Watt) solar panel kit to maintain the charge on the included 12 Volt / 7 Ah sealed battery. It's the right choice when your gate is more than 1,000 ft from an AC outlet. Never connect the solar panel and AC transformer at the same time — it will damage the control board.

The LPS-13 ships as a complete DIY kit — operator, control board, 12 Volt battery, 18 Vac transformer, receiver, transmitter, 25 ft #41 drive chain, chain brackets, quick-release pins, mounting hardware, warning signs, and the installation manual. Two people and standard tools (drill, wrenches, level, screwdrivers) make the job easier.

What you'll need to provide: a level concrete pad (18 in. below grade minimum per local code) with four ³/₈ in. mounting anchors, 16-gauge low-voltage wire up to 1,000 ft, PVC conduit, and a weatherproof outlet (surge protection recommended). The LPS-13 features Dual Sense Technology™ — it stops and reverses direction within 2 seconds when the gate contacts an obstruction, with adjustable force sensitivity. If the unit obstructs twice during an open or close cycle, an audio entrapment alarm sounds for 5 minutes. The operator is UL 325 certified as a Class I residential vehicular slide gate operator.

Additional protection is required for every installation: safety edges or photo beams, roller guards, a screen/guard over gate openings (so a 2¼ in. sphere can't pass), and the two included warning signs mounted on both sides of the gate.

The LPS-13 works with vinyl, aluminum, chain link, and wrought iron slide gates that are plumb, level, and slide freely in both directions. Never use a wheel on the gate — the added drag can cause the operator to obstruct.

Important: The LPS-13 is for vehicular gates only. A separate pedestrian gate is required for walk-through traffic, and all gate openings must be guarded or screened to prevent entrapment.

Manual operation takes seconds: turn the power switch OFF and make sure the gate is not moving, then lift and remove the quick-release pins from the chain brackets, lay the chain down, and slide the gate by hand. Reattach the chain when you're done. Never disconnect the operator while the gate is moving.

Yes. The auto-close timer is adjustable from 3 to 120 seconds, and is set to OFF at the factory (the gate stays open until you press the transmitter, keypad, or other control again). After the gate fully opens, pressing the transmitter at any time closes it immediately — even during the auto-close delay.

The LPS-13 operates reliably from -5 °F to +120 °F. In cold weather you may need to increase the stall-force adjustment slightly because of added friction, but keep it as close to minimum as possible and reduce it again when the weather warms.

The LPS-13 includes a 2-year limited warranty when purchased directly from Mighty Mule or an authorized dealer. The control board is "add on ready" — a fully compatible accessory terminal block connects safety loops, exit wands, intercoms, card readers, and phone systems.
